The McCullough Single Parent Scholarship
The McCullough Single Parent Scholarship was created by Sharon and Edward McCullough to encourage a single parent to continue in higher education while trying to manage a household and the children(s) needs.
Sharon had returned to school while parenting three children and was blessed by the Gateway Community College Foundation as a recipient of several scholarships as she worked toward and completed her nursing degree at Gateway Community College. The scholarships greatly helped her focus on the requirements of classes while physically, emotionally, and financially trying to sustain her home and family.
Criteria: The scholarship was created regardless of GPA because a single parent’s responsibilities are overwhelming and grades do not matter as much as the people we love. The requirement of the award is an essay about spending quality time with your child(ren).
Impact
After marrying, Sharon and Ed wanted to “pay it” forward to improve the future of children in single parent homes.
